My Visit to a Science Fair
A science
fair is generally a competition where contestants present their science project,
results in the form of a report, display board, and/or
models that they have created. Science fairs allow students in elementary,
middle and high schools to compete in science and/or technology activities. The
main motive of a science fair is for students to answer a question or task, not
from a textbook but found out themselves by conducting a range of experiments and
ongoing research in the short amount of time allocated to them. In Bangladesh, the science fair first became popular in the early 1970s. Like every year, our
school organized a three-day long science fair at our school premises last year.
Fifteen educational institutes participated in this fair. Ours was one of them.
Each institute has its respective stall. I was one of the participants the fair
was launched by the Education Minister. It was the first time I participated in such a fair. I went round stall to stall to gather experience. Many scientific
projects were put to display by creative science learners. Some of the learners
were making a solar oven, showing the activities of a windmill, making biogas from
garbage, producing electricity from solar energy and so on. We presented a
model of simple electric motor. Our project drew the attention of the visitors
and judges. It was selected for the third prize. One the concluding session,
prizes and certificates were given away. Finally, all the speakers delivered an encouraging speech on the necessity of science which inspired the young and
inquisitive learners. In conclusion, by arranging the science fair, any country can
create their new possible scientists. So, the government of our country should
organize this kind of fair regularly.
