Dialogue between two friends about their favorite sportsman
F1: Hey friend, how’s going on? How did you
enjoy the 2016 summer Olympic in Rio de Janeiro?
F2: People rightly say that it is the
greatest show on earth. I’m still thrilled to remember those exciting moments
of the Olympics.
F1: That’s totally amazing! But I’m a little bit sad that Michael Phelps, my favorite athlete, announced his retirement from
the pool.
F2: yeah! I understand that as my favorite
athlete, Usain Bolt, has also announced his retirement from the track recently.
However, let’s talk about their achievements.
F1: Okay, with
a total of 28 medals, Phelps is the most successful and the most decorated olympian of all time. When he won eight gold medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, Phelps broke fellow American swimmer Mark Spitz's
1972 record of seven first-place finishes at any single Olympics. At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Phelps had already
tied the record of eight medals; at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London,
he won four gold and two silver medals; and at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro,
he won five gold medals and one silver. This made him the most successful athlete of
the Games for the fourth Olympics in a row.
F2: On the other hand, Usain Bolt, a
nine-time Olympic gold medalist,
won the 100 m, 200 m and 4 × 100 m relay at three consecutive Olympic
Games. He gained worldwide fame for his double sprint victory in world record
times at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Bolt is the only sprinter to
win Olympic 100 and 200 m titles at three consecutive
Olympics(’08, ’12, ‘16). he is widely considered to be the greatest sprinter of
all time.
F1: I think we have to wait quite a bit
longer to see other legends in the pool and the track.
F2: Right you are. Let’s go now.
F1: Okay.
